Mavra Froudia (Black eyebrows). The latest project of this three musicians recognized in different disciplines: Stelios Petrakis, one of the most well-known performers and makers of Cretan lyra al lute of the new generation. Efrén López, Valencian multiinstrumentalist founder of L'Ham de Foc and collaborator with many bands dedicated to European Early music, and percussionist Bijan Chemirani, born into a musical family and heir to the great tradition of persian zarb. We proposed a program of original compositions based on rhythms and scales of different backgrounds: Crete and other Greek islands, Medieval Europe, Turkey and Iran.
Josep Mir i Llussà achieved some of these most prestigious positions in Segovia (1731-1741), Valladolid (1741-1750) and Madrid (1751-1764). In this stage in Madrid, Mir was mixed with the most influential persons of the court: José de Nebra, Jaume Casellas, José Ripa and the Italians Francesco Corselli and Nicola Conforto. His main task was always the composition of church music, materialized in an impressive catalogue of works and in its dissemination throughout the Spanish and Latino American geographies.
In September 1701, during Maria Luisa of Savoya's trip to Barcelona to wed Philip V, inclement weather forced the retinue to call at Marseilles, an unexpected stop that gave rise to the pieces and dances found on this recording. Organist Charles Desmazures devoted to the Queen a collection of seven suites in the period immediately after Lully, and prior to François Couperin. On this recording, the group Vespres d Arnadí provides a rich and imaginative performance full of vitality.

The early music ensemble Vespres d’Arnadí and the soprano Maria Espada pay tribute to the Venetian singer Anna Maria Strada, Händel’s favourite soprano, to whom the composer dedicated 24 of his operas premiered between 1729 and 1737. Overtures and arias from Orlando, Agrippina, Poro, Sosarme, Atalanta, Ezio, Alcina and Arianna in Creta form part of this new album, recorded under the direction of Dani Espasa.
